Broomsticks have been used in different cultures for many years. In Ancient Rome broomsticks were used by midwives to symbolically “sweep away” negative influences. In French folklore, it’s considered bad form to sweep up after dark, in case you sweep away good luck with the dirt. According to Chinese folklore, you can get rid of vampires by sweeping them out with a broom. In modern days, brooms are used for protection, to ward off evil spirits and to cleanse energetically. Hang one in your sacred space, or by your front door for protection.
